USPS reduces its post office closures

The US Postal Service (USPS), seeking major cost reductions to cope with a double-digit volume decline, has reduced the number of post offices lined up for possible closure to just 413 out of its 37,000 outlets across the USA. "BvDP"

USPS said that 413 retail stations and branches remain under consideration for possible consolidation under a study started earlier this summer. It had focused on offices in close proximity to each other, while seeking to maintain customer access to postal services. But no final actions will be taken regarding consolidation after Oct. 2, 2009, following the start of the new 2009-2010 financial year.
